Steel Shaft Communication Towers
Due to extreme weather conditions, steel shaft communication towers are used in place of traditional timber poles or angle-iron towers. BBN machining fabricated all components of these towers which were broken down into 15 different sections for shipping purposes.
After the 30" OD shafts were rolled, fit, and welded, the spiral flanges, intended for wind deflection, were rolled and fit-up by hand to best match the required layout. Once ring flanges were welded to the ends of all shaft assemblies, BBN machining shop-fit each section together to match fit for customer assurance. Each tower weighed roughly 10-12 Tons and ranged in height from 128' to 145'.
