How much do you know about S355J2WP?
Meaning:
S355J2WP is a corrosion-resistant steel under the EN 10025_5 standard, "S" means structural steel, "355" means the yield strength is 355MPa, "J2" refers to impact at a temperature of -20°, and the letter W indicates that the steel has the ability to resist atmospheric corrosion, P is the chemical element composition phosphorus. S355J2WP has excellent self-protection properties, when it reacts with elements in the atmosphere, the material forms a layer of rust over time, which essentially protects S355J2WP steel from corrosion.
Chemical composition:
Grade | C | Si | Mn | P | S | N | Cr | Cu |
S355J2WP | ≤0.15 | ≤0.80 | ≤1.1 | 0.05-0.16 | ≤0.035 | — | 0.25-1.35 | 0.20-0.60 |
Features:
Compared with ordinary carbon steel, S355J2WP weathering steel has better corrosion resistance in the atmosphere. Compared with stainless steel, S355J2WP steel has only trace alloy elements, such as phosphorus, copper, aluminum, titanium, etc. The alloy elements only account for a few percent, not more than ten percent like stainless steel, so the price is relatively low.
Use:
S355J2WP is mainly used in fields exposed to the atmosphere for a long time such as railways, vehicles, bridges, towers, and high-speed projects. It can also be used in containers containing hydrogen sulfide corrosive media, oil derricks, seaport buildings, and chemical equipment.
